THE ASTROLOGICAL SKIES OF SPRING AND SUMMER

by Mary Russo
Medical Astrology is but one topic under an umbrella that includes such subjects as Sun Sign, Lunar and Mundane astrology to name but a few. Centuries ago well known "Father of Medicine" and Greek Physician Hippocrates felt that without a working knowledge of Astrology one could never qualify as a reputable medical person.

In this modern age however, physicians aren't known to consult Astrological Charts to determine diagnosis. Nevertheless a little knowledge of sun signs might shed some light on the body's seasonal strengths and weaknesses.

While astrology is made up of more than just sun signs, it's still a good place for a novice to start. In the astrological field the Sun is considered the giver of life and fortification of one's Sun is always a good thing. In Medical Astrology each of the twelve signs of the Zodiac is associated with an area of the body. As the sun passes through each sign, the body part(s) associated with it might require extra attention.

Briefly, here's how it works. The Zodiac begins at the top of your head with the sign of Aries and ends with Pisces ruler of your feet. The following is a partial list of body parts associated with each sign.

Aries rules head and face; Taurus the neck and throat; Gemini rules lungs and nervous system; Cancer rules portions of the stomach and body fluids; Leo rules heart and upper back; Virgo rules pancreas and gallbladder ; Libra rules equilibrium and lower back; Scorpio rules genital and urinary system; Sagittarius rules thighs, hips and sciatic nerves; Capricorn rules bone structure and skeletal muscles; Aquarius rules calves and ankles; and Pisces the feet, bones of the feet and lymphatic glands.

This is not to say that disease or illness is a foregone conclusion. No, it is more that supplementary information can allow one the freedom to choose various options in the creation of their own living environment. For many health minded individuals, awareness is the beginning step to proper self-care. With this in mind let's embark on our astrological journey through the spring and summer constellations of Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and Leo and look at those regions of the body they preside over.

On April 21st through May 21st Taurus rules the sky and highlights such areas of the body associated with throat and neck. These parts include your tonsils, esophagus, windpipe and voice box as well as the cervical nerves of the neck. During this period the outer layer of skin that surrounds the neck may also be sensitive to jewelry and clothing.

As the sun moves through the sky, Gemini runs the show from May 22nd through June 21st. Its domain includes the lungs and adjoining delicate tissues and membranes. Air quality and how you breathe takes center stage now and during this period of changing weather patterns attention should also be given to care of hands and joints.

From June 22nd through July 23rd we are under the beams of the Cancer sun. This sign desires a secure comfort level for areas of the body associated with the stomach and body fluids. Your digestive tract becomes a focal point. As fluid constitutes more than half your body weight, what you eat and drink gets your attention. Therefore, it's good to be mindful of body intake and output in order to maintain those essential fluids.

Our last summer constellation is Leo. When the sun moves through this regal sign from July 24th through August 23rd, the upper torso and your heart are featured. At a time of the year that invites fun outdoors, key areas of the body that require protection include the thoracic nerves of the back. Awareness of other vulnerabilities to the body includes shielding from excess sun, heat stroke, insect bites and stings.

Now that you have completed your tour of the spring and summer zodiac, much of this may sound like common sense. However, in Hippocrates' time this was not the case. But like him, you now have gained some knowledge of medical  astrology, a tool that can enrich your daily spring and summer life!
