Acupuncture and Allergies
Daria Casinelli
If you suffer from Summer
allergies
to things
like
pollen,
dander,
ragweed,
then now is the time to come in for
acupuncture treatments. Like any
chronic, cyclical condition, allergies
respond best to treatment before
the onset of acute symptoms.
Treating a patient before they
are sneezing uncontrollably, or
drowning from the inside out,
allows the acupuncturist to focus
on the root causes of allergies
rather than on the manifestation.
It’s also a great way to avoid
having to have needles in your
nose! Once the nose is off and
running, a local treatment, during
which needles are put near the
site of the problem, is unavoidable.
During a root treatment, the
opposite of a local treatment, I
would focus on strengthening the
energetic systems of the body
that process phlegm. When those
systems – the Chinese equivalent
to the Lung, Spleen, and Kidney
– are functioning at their best
then the body and the mind have
a better chance of appropriately
responding to the return of warm
weather.
