Aromatics have been prized for centuries for their therapeutic, spiritual, and aesthetic properties. Current age Aromatherapy combines the art and science of using the extracts of aromatic plant material, essential oils, and hydrolats to address a specific layer of the trinity of existence. Utilizing a holistic framework, we search for balance of our physiology, psychology - including emotions - and our spirituality. Aromatherapy, when used properly, can become a catalyst for the body to initiate it's own healing ability.
WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
Essential oils are products of plant metabolism. Comprised of chemical constituents, essential oils mediate between the plant and it's its environment. Essential oils are extracted via distillation (steam and/or water), citrus oils via expression, and absolutes via enfleurage and solvent extraction. Many factors contribute to the quality of the essential oil produced including cultivation, environmental conditions and harvesting methods as well as type and length of extraction.

How Do Essential Oils Work?
As the volatile, concentrated essence of plants, the essential oils of today offer a multitude of effects upon the different systems of the body. Most essential oils are antibacterial in nature; others may offer sedative, anti-inflammatory or expectorant properties. The following provides a generalized idea of the pathways an essential oil molecule takes into the body.
- As one inhales an aromatic molecule, it travels via the olfactory nerves to
the brain and limbic system, which stores memory and emotion.
- Hence the powerfully evocative nature of scent. Essential oils also enter the blood stream bloodstream through this manner.
- Essential oils are also absorbed through the dermal layer of the skin, although the absorption rate differs with each oil.
- Subtle Aromatherapy works more on a vibrational level, clearing, activating, and fostering a pathway of release between our physical and non-physical bodies.
