Everyone can “See” Chakra’s
By Rhys Thomas
During a workshop on healing through the chakras that I recently held, a woman raised her hand and spoke quietly while keeping her eyes lowered, “Can you teach me to “see” the chakras? I have to be able to see them to work with them, right?” As I heard her speak I could “see” that she spoke for everyone in the room, and 99% of the other people in the world who have ever studied the chakra system. Sadly there are millions of people who are fully capable of “seeing” the chakras but consider themselves “seeing” impaired because they cannot physically “see” the colorful chakra discs that spin and weave the fabric of life through the various parts of every persons aura and life.
When I told her that I did not “see” the chakras either, I could “see” that she immediately had to deal with the realization that I too was “seeing” impaired and she just paid for a workshop to learn from someone who was as “seeing” impaired as she was. But as the talk continued she began to understand that chakras are so much more than their color and form. They are the vehicles through which we experience life and the state of human consciousness.
The trick here is to change the word “see” to “perceive.” Not everyone has the psychic gift of clairvoyance and in fact that is the most rare (and often the most difficult) psychic gift to have. Unfortunately, there is a belief these days that clairvoyance, the ability to “see,” is better and more desirable then the many other forms of perception. This is a hang up that we would all be better without for it invalidates and disempowers so many people’s experiences.
Everyone perceives energy, we do it all the time, everyday without really knowing that is what we are doing. Every chakra is constantly reading the energy field around us and providing us with a wealth of information about ourselves and the world around us. The lower three chakras are tuned into our physical environment and the upper ones are geared towards mental, spiritual and universal levels. “Seeing” the chakras is for everyone, and is as easy and natural as seeing the sun sparkling on the water, feeling a shiver in you body, knowing love as you hold your child, or your anger as it moves up your body and your fear as it get stuck in your belly.
Perceiving the Chakras
Perceiving the chakras is a wonderful and easy spiritual skill. When learning spiritual skills, always start with yourself. Once you know yourself, reading others is much easier. Since reading others is a matter of getting feedback from your own chakras as they filter the other person’s energy, you better know what filters you use and what is open and what is closed in you before you try tuning into anyone else.
Start with understanding that your chakras are both solid and metaphoric. They are finite channels for life force or Chi energy to enter and exit your system, and also comprise all of the experiential and mundane aspects of your life. An example of “seeing” the chakras around a simple life issue of a sprained ankle would look like this:
1. In your first chakra, your body, you have a sore ankle. You feel pain in your body. The first chakra is your body.
2. That triggers your second chakra, your feelings, to be upset about it. Your second chakra is your feelings and a sensations.
3. Which triggers the third chakra, your sense of self, to stay home when everyone is going out dancing. This is an action in the real world that represents your sense of yourself and your self-esteem.
4. And then in your fourth chakra, the chakra of relationships, you feel lonely and sad that you are left out.
5. Consequently, in the 5th chakra, your self expression, when you get asked how you feel you say, “I’m FINE!” (but you’re not,)
6. So that in the sixth chakra, your personal vision, you visualize another night in front of the TV with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, feeling sorry for yourself.
7. Finally in the 7th chakra, your connection to infinite possibility and “knowing,” you “know” that you have little or no chance of improving this situation in the near future and that triggers your whole system to lower it’s vibration and feel stuck.
Amazingly, this how we perceive and “see” our own chakras all the time! As a healing tool your ability to “see” these aspects of your life as individual units of energy and choice allows you to break patterns in any one of the chakras and bring the system back to wholeness. For instance if in your fourth and fifth chakras you decided that your sprained ankle was a great excuse to talk to all your friends and connect to them at a deeper level as you sit and watch them come on and off the dance floor, your whole system would rally around those thoughts and your life experience would be profoundly different. Or if in your third and sixth chakra you could see your sprained ankle as great opportunity to have some quiet meditation time to support your inner growth, your entire system would react differently.
Since the chakras are the channels through which we have our life experiences, it makes sense that the more we learn about them the more likely we are to be able to keep them clear and supporting our health and wellbeing. Of course, all the chakras interact and affect each other, but to start you need to see them individually as a filter that your life runs through. Knowing which chakra is out of balance is as simple as recognizing which area of your life is out of balance. Once you “see’ this, you can enlist all the chakras to support you in making new choices.
How to “See” Chakras
Learning to understand the chakras in this very practical way can really help in our ability to perceive our energy system. Although the chakras are very mystical, they are also incredibly practical and present in our lives in this concrete way. They are so much more then little spinning vortexes of energy. They are grounded into our everyday life.
Chakra One- Being
The closest thing to a first chakra is a tree. It is powerful and majestic, solid and unmoving, alive and thriving, simple and loving. Its form is the embodiment of intelligence and function.
To “see” your first chakra, you need to look at everything that is pragmatic, simple and solid. Start with your body. How does it feel? Where is it strong, weak or sick? What illnesses has it had over your lifetime? Look at your body in a mirror. Do you look vibrant? Tired? Angry?
Then look at everything in your life that is solid. These include anything you could bump into at any given moment: your house, your car, family members, co-workers, the things that are objects of you affection, the things you are sentimental about, the food you eat, etc.
Look at how all the physical objects in your life (including you) that are working, and/or not working, and you can get a snapshot how your first chakra is functioning. You will “see” your first chakra.
Chakra Two- Feeling
In the East it is believed that everything is connected and in relationship to everything else so directly, that the flapping of a butterflies wings can trigger a hurricane on the other side of the planet. It is in the second chakra that you can feel both the butterfly flapping and the hurricane spinning and know that they both influence your life.
To “see” your second chakra, you need to look at everything that is in the realm of sensations. It is your ability to feel the world and your immediate environment and how it flows to, and through you. These sensations, most felt at the skin level, put you in contact with the world. How aware are you of all the people, places and things in your life? How do they touch you and how do you feel when they do?
Secondary aspects of sensation are their accompanying emotions. For instance, when you sense something like a cool breeze blowing on you, it may trigger emotional feelings that desire to pull inward and get away from it to find warmth. Or if you feel the love of another toward you, it many trigger emotional feelings that desire to reach out to them get closer or spend more time with that person. A sensation is the raw unit of feeling. Emotions are feelings coming to consciousness and are triggers that move outward or turn you inward.
Look at how sensitive you are and how your relationships with all your first chakra things in your life make you feel. Notice how much your sensations drive your emotional behavior in both positive and negative directions. Then you will “see” your second chakra.
Chakra Three- Doing
To gaze upon a person who in enthusiastically being themselves is to see the sun shining through every pore in their body and mind. This is the third chakra.
To “see” your third chakra you need to look at everything in your life that you “do” that makes you unique in the world. You are a one-and-only. There will never again, on this planet, be a person with your specific genetics, mental capacity, emotional capacity, life skills or desires and preferences. Your third chakra is your power to take action on your deepest desires that fill you with passion and joy and use your willpower to let go of your unhealthy obsessions that drain your life force.
In the third chakra you can begin to see that your life purpose is directly related to your uniqueness. When your actions come from that uniqueness you are truly going to be a contributing member of the human race. Albert Einstein said, “It is only to the individual that a soul is given.” And it is in the individual that the soul lives among us.
Look at how often you freely allow yourself to be yourself, and relax and enjoy that person. Or how often you suppress your desires and the unique person you were born to be so that you may conform in some way to external pressures. Once you “see’ this aspect of yourself you are seeing your third chakra.
Chakra Four- Loving
The fourth chakra is the balance point in the system of the seven chakras. It sits in the middle between the physical realm of chakras 1-3 that experience being, feeling and doing, and the mental/spiritual upper realm of chakras 5-7 that bring creativity, thought and wisdom. It is the bridge between these two worlds and it’s purpose is unconditional love is the sweetest nectar that has ever been tasted.
To “see” your fourth chakra you need to look the relationship you have with yourself and all the other people in your life with an eye for how compassionate your are in each relationship. How well do you find balance in these relationships? How easily do you forgive? How much do you enjoy your relationships to others? Ho easily do you balance your needs with the needs of your loved ones?
Looking at your current relationships and sense of love for yourself and others and you will “see” your heart chakra in action.
Chakra Five- Expressing
The fifth chakra is the center of your creativity and willingness to speak your truth and stand up for it. To experience an open fifth chakra is to feel the subtle vibration of human aura that resonates with every aspect of the world and creatively lives as part of it.
To “see” your fifth chakra you need to look at how you creatively express what is inside you and what is going on in all your chakras outward into the world. This includes all your creativity from your work to how you creatively interact with the people in your life, to how creative and dynamic you are in expressing yourself throughout your life. In the fifth chakra your make the choice as to how you are going to live your life through communication and self expression. You speak your truth at every level. You call your power and gifts out for all to see and you call your weakness and addictions out so that they lose their power over you.
Becoming aware of your creative choices and your unconscious automatic choices that keep you doing the same thing over and over again is how you “see” you fifth chakra.
Chakra Six- Seeing
The sixth chakra is that center of clairvoyant sight where spiritual guidance flashes into awareness. To gaze upon an open sixth chakra is to see the flash of intuition that brings clarity and meaning to the individual’s life.
To “see” your sixth chakra you need to look at how you expand your mind’s eye to perceive yourself in the bigger picture in life. In the third chakra you own your individuality and uniqueness, in the sixth chakra you see how that uniqueness impacts the world around you. Are you a mother, a leader, an artist, a yogi, or all of the above? In the sixth chakra you see how you fit in the world and how important your contribution to the world you live in truly is.
Looking at your ability to take your rightful place in the world and see the ripple effect that all your actions and thoughts have on those around you and the world lets you “see” your sixth chakra.
Chakra Seven-Knowing
The seventh chakra is the crown of the system and when it is open brings consciousness to all of life. When experienced and seen it is the soul’s essence expanding out through every aspect of the person’s life bringing a deep connection to the infinite.
To “see” your seventh chakra you need to look at your relationship with infinite possibility. Do you embrace all people, religions, and walks of life? Do you question how things have always been done and see new ways of doing it? Or are you stuck and limited in your life and vision.
In the seventh chakra, imagination, consciousness and genius live hand in hand. Brilliance is not only an aspect of visible light, it is a aspect of the mind as it opens to consciousness and infinite possibility.
Looking at your ability to be open, and limitless, bright or brilliant, or closed and limited lets you “see” your seventh chakra.
